After attending a conference or workshop, I am always energized and filled with lots of good ideas (and intentions): tools to incorporate, books to read, and people to connect with. Unfortunately, when I return to the office or, in this wacky state of COVID-19 and virtual events, stay in my office, I get caught up in the day-to-day busyness and my good intentions fall by the wayside.

As planning for the 2022 AIIP Annual Conference gets underway, it is a good time to reflect for a moment on AIIP21, our first virtual conference. In spite of unknowns resulting from the pandemic, the AIIP Board and Conference Committee demonstrated that we are resourceful and resilient, and can pivot to achieve desired outcomes as circumstances dictate – qualities shared by most AIIP members.

AIIP 2021: Notes from the REMO trenches

It was near the top of the hour on April 16th, and I waited anxiously to see if my on-screen face would be yanked through a vortex to the next session, or if I would have to ‘walk’ there on my own.

The AIIP Oscars – Lights, Camera, Action!

The awards dinner is always a highlight of the AIIP Annual Conference, since it gives attendees an opportunity to honour and celebrate peers who exemplify the AIIP ethos. Although this year’s conference was virtual, we did not miss out, as the awards ceremony was brought to our screens instead, with the award winners called “on stage” to make an acceptance speech.

AIIP21: Making Sense of Financial and Economic Data

At the recent #AIIP21 virtual annual conference, keynote speaker William R. Emmons, Lead Economist in the Division of Supervision, Credit, and Learning at the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, led an interesting and informative presentation entitled “Using Federal Reserve Data to Track the Economic Recovery in 2021 and Beyond.” At the beginning, Emmons made it clear that the views presented were his own and not those of the Federal Reserve.
